The State Fair of Texas

A couple of days before our trip to the Fair this weekend, I found out they have a daily cooking competition! I have always known about the Arts and Crafts competitions (and have always secretly wanted to enter something!), but cooking?! That's my love! Saturday's competition was Party Foods. After much deliberation I decided to enter Hubby's Grandma's Beef & Cheeseball recipe.

OK, I'm ready, send me in!
 Sitting proudly among the competition.
I did not place, but it was a learning experience! I plan to compete again in the future! Maybe I'll even get up the nerve to enter something in the craft competition as well!

One of my new scrapbooking friends entered several things in the competition, and she got 2nd place on her Halloween mask & Flag. I love them both! She is very talented!
Butter Horses! The butter sculptures have always fascinated me!
"Howdy Folks I'm Big Tex, Welcome to the State Fair of Texas"
When I was little, Fletcher's only had regular corny dogs, & I don't like hot dogs, but I love Fletcher's breading! My brother on the other hand, only ate the hot dog. So we shared & it was perfect! Then Fletcher's decided to make me a very happy person and started making Jalapeno Cheddar Corny Dogs! Now, I crave these all year long!!
Big Tea for Big Tex fans!
We also tried, but didn't photograph :( 2 of the finalists from this years fried food challenge. The Fried Siracha Balls, and the Fried Loaded Baked Potato Bites. Both were very yummy!!
Oh my gosh!!! A doggie Kissing Booth!!!
 That's a sweet puppy!
 Don't tell Ghost!
Thank you for the kisses!!!
This truck wants to go home with me!
This year Chevy had different pins scattered about to find, and if you found 5 of them you got a free Big Tex pin :) of course we found all 8! They also had a pin making station, where you could draw your own pin! If you are still planning your Fair trip for this year, make sure you go pin hunting with Chevy!!
Big things are happening in Dallas!
I love this man!
I love going to the Fair with him too! We enjoy the same things for the most part, and he puts up with my documenting every detail for scrapbooking, & blogging! ;) He spoils me!
 CANstruction
After the Fair all these cans will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank :)
Me - You have to stand by Willie, you both have beards!!!
Him - Rolls his eyes...
See he spoils me! :)
 BIG Things!
 Yum!
"If you like to talk to tomatoes..."
Last year was the end of an era, we watched the Bird Show at the Fair for the last time. But this year Kroger did not disappoint with the Wild West Pet Palooza! Dogs, cats, birds, a pig! All rescue animals! It was very cute!
Craft Beer! This tent had all local brews, and I am a sucker for trying new beer! Hubby got Blood & Honey which is brewed in Granbury. We have had it before when visiting House of Blues, and we are really wanting to go tour the brewery sometime because it has become a favorite with us (Lacey, that means we will be coming to see ya'll!)! I tried Ugly Pug which is brewed in Fort Worth, I had never had a beer from Rahr & Sons, so I was excited to try it. Ugly Pug is a dark beer, but it was described as "a drinkable dark beer". I really liked it! Dark beers can tend to be punch you in the face stout, but this one was much smoother I thought. Hubby, however, was not a fan. I do like the stout beers, so you can trust my opinion at your face's risk ;)
Our last event before heading home was the Ostrich Races.
Have you ever been to an Ostrich race? I hadn't...
This is what I thought it was going to be, ostriches running around a track, simple.
Aparently, this was just the Ostriches showing off beforehand.
 People actually ride ostriches!!!
 And they are super fast!!
Then they had kids volunteer to race emus
 and ducks.
 Seriously, people ride ostriches!
 I had no idea!
What do you think big guy, wanna go for a spin around the track?!

Happy 5th Birthday Conner

Yesterday was Conner's 5th birthday!! He wanted to celebrate at Six Flags! Fortunately, it was get a friend in free day for season pass holders, so he was able to get all his friends in with other friend's season passes :)
The first ride he wanted to ride was Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure!
He was trying to watch the cartoons on the inline TV, but I made him take a pic with me :)
Gotta have fun in line!
Be careful there is a gold thief on the loose!
Elias is very excited for this "Thrill" ride ;)
Yes, our Hubby's are very secure in their manhood! ;)
Let me tell you, riding this with a child brings all the fun back into it! She was so excited about the story going on! She gasped, giggled, and cheered when the good guys won! :)
Next Conner wanted to sing Karaoke, "Let It Go", of course, the only 3 words of the song he knows are "Let It Go", which he sang through the whole song... "Let It Go, Let It Go, Let It Go, Let It Go..." It was the best rendition of this song I've ever heard :)
Good Job!!
My Brother, Sister, & Baby Luke got him this super cool hat :)
On to Aquaman (will always be Splash Water Falls to me!)
You are going to get wet!!!
Splash!!!
Pretty Rainbow!
Hey I wanted to ride that!
"Whatchu Talkin' 'bout Willis?"
Of course a ride on Aquaman is not complete without standing on the bridge!
Watch out!!!
SPLASH!!!
Did Conner get washed away?!
Oh good, there he is :)
He was SOOO excited!!
Mr Cool
Hey, you are dripping!
Alot!
That's right, give mommy a big wet hug!
After Aquaman the birthday boy had to go, but we stayed because my mom & our friend Trevor don't have passes, so they wanted to stay as long as we could :)
Jamie's Favorite :)
Hello Myrtle the Turtle! It's been a long time! Glad to see you are still well!
First we rode Mr Freeze, which I forgot to photograph :( Trevor told us he liked dangerous, so we went straight there, because they currently have it going backwards! So the part where they take you straight up in the air, which you used to do looking directly into the sun, you now do looking straight down at the ground! It was crazy!
Then it was on to Superman! Which we actually got my mom to ride!! She's getting brave! ;)
Then we ended the day on a calmer note, the Chaparral Cars. Luke could have ridden these with us, but he was napping, so maybe next time!
We are so happy to have Season Passes so we can enjoy Six Flags, & take friend's along sometimes as well!
